Morning Rotary
Lake Placid, Florida

The Rotary Club of Lake Placid Florida was chartered in 1970. We currently have 30 active and honorary members from a wide variety of businesses and backgrounds. We are always looking for new active members. We do several projects around Lake Placid and support the 7 Avenues of Service from Rotary International. Our main fund raisers are a spring Golf Tournament and a fall Turkey Shoot.
We meet every Wednesday at 6:44 am at the Purple Iris Tea Room. If our time of the morning doesn’t suit, there are 5 other Rotary Clubs in Highlands County to choose from.

Projects

Golf Tournament

The Lake Placid Rotary touches many lives in Highlands County with service projects.
• We have adopted Lake Country Elementary School and fulfill wish lists from teachers each year.
• The club provides scholarships to High School seniors for academic and vocational education.
• You'll find us on the streets of Lake Placid ringing bells for the Salvation Army's Christmas collection.
• We sponsor a rising senior high school student each year to S4TL (Seminar for Tomorrow's Leaders)
• One of our most important projects is our participation in Freedom Flight; sending veterans to Washington, DC to visit military memorials.

Funds for these projects are raised with events such as golf tournaments, turkey shoots, and food sales at local festivals.

Turkey Shoot

Rotary International has more than 1.2 million members in over 200 countries. The 7 Avenues of Service are the key priorities for global grants and humanitarian projects. Those Avenues are:

• Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention: Fosters understanding and supports training to prevent conflict.
• Disease Prevention and Treatment: Expands access to healthcare and prevents the spread of diseases.
• Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Provides sustainable access to clean water and sanitation.
• Maternal and Child Health: Focuses on reducing child mortality and improving health for mothers and children.
• Basic Education and Literacy: Works to increase access to education and improve literacy rates worldwide.
• Community Economic Development: Promotes sustainable economic opportunities and strengthens local economies.
• The Environment: Supports projects that protect and restore the natural environment.

Rotary International has adopted the “Four-Way Test” to be used as an ethical guide for projects all around the world.
The questions about the things we think, say or do are:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
